On our Austin Healey luggage rack the basket does obstruct the center rear-view mirror, so wing mirrors are essential. We lace the leather straps through alternate luggage rack bars, buckle them over the basket, and drive freeway speeds all day. We keep our luggage in a big plastic garbage bag inside the basket in case of rain, and carry the basket into our hotel at night by the handles - they'll hold anything you can carry one-armed.
